The MTA board has approved partial refunds for LIRR riders with May monthly tickets due to the strike earlier this month.

In a post to X, formerly Twitter, the LIRR says customers will receive refunds for the four days that trains were halted due to the labor dispute.

According to the agency, the move amounts to an approximate 13 percent refund that will be directly credited to payment methods used by riders.

The strike began the morning of Saturday, May 16 and was resolved on the night of Monday, May 18. Trains began rolling once again midday the following Tuesday.

The work stoppage was the first for the railroad since 1994.

According to the Associated Press, Gov. Kathy Hochul says the deal between the MTA and labor unions will not raise fares or taxes.
